ACADEMY COLLECTIONS
THE CINEMEDIA PROJECT
The CineMedia Project is a research collection dedicated to the study of Latin American and Latino film. The material was collected by the Latin American and Latino Studies Department at UC Santa Cruz beginning in 1996 and was accessioned by the Academy in 2017.
The Latin American and Latino Studies Department at UC-Santa Cruz CineMedia Project Collection is now housed at the Margaret Herrick Library and Academy Film Archive. The paper collection at the library includes 26 boxes of books, including 2 boxes of catalogs, 2 boxes of dissertations, 1 box of festival publications; 20 boxes of periodicals; and 12 boxes of file materials, including files on individuals that represent a wide range of Latin American and Latino filmmakers, and on individual films. There are also 30 film posters and some photographs. The material is in largely in English or Spanish. The time period covered is largely from the 1960s through 2000s. The Academy Film Archive holds 400 videotapes and half a dozen 16mm film prints from the collection, which includes a number of rare titles and many classics of Latin American cinema.
