Soon after sound took hold in the movie industry, Hollywood studios experimented with ways to attract Spanish-speaking audiences. Using Latin-American actors, technicians and directors, they shot Spanish-language versions of their films on the same sets. Notable among these alternate versions is this stylish adaptation of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel. Directed by George Melford, Drácula was filmed at night during the production of the 1931 English-language version that starred Bela Lugosi. The Spanish-language version features Carlos Villar as the ancient vampire and Mexican-born actress Lupita Tovar as Eva, the target of his bloodthirsty affections.

En colaboración con actores latinoamericanos y españoles, técnicos y cineastas, comenzaron a filmar versiones en español de sus películas en inglés compartiendo los mismos escenarios de cine.
Entre estas producciones cabe resaltar la estilizada adaptación al cine de Drácula, basada en la novela de Bram Stocker escrita en 1897, y dirigida por George Melford. Mientras su versión al inglés se filmaba por el día con el actor Bela Lugosi, su versión al español fue filmada durante la noche con el actor español Carlos Villar (Villarías) en el papel del vampiro y la actriz mexicana Lupita Tovar en el de la joven Eva, víctima de su amor sangriento.
