Inspired by the 1970 film The Honeymoon Killers, which was based on a true story, director Arturo Ripstein and screenwriter Paz Alicia Garcíadiego deliver a blistering account of crime and vanity. Set in 1949 in northern Mexico, the story follows two-bit gigolo Nicolás Estrella (Daniel Giménez Cacho) as he becomes entangled with overweight nurse Coral Fabre (Regina Orozco). The sociopathic pair, perfectly matched in their depravity, go on a crime spree that targets lonely women. A film both tragic and funny, it also takes aim at romantic idealism and Mexican class prejudices.

Inspirado en la película The Honeymoon Killers (1970), basada en una historia de la vida real, el cineasta Arturo Ripstein y la guionista Paz Alicia Garcíadiego construyeron una historia explosiva sobre el crimen y la vanidad. Ambientada en 1949 en el noreste de México, la película sigue la historia del gigolo Nicolás Estrella (Daniel Giménez Cacho) y su relación con una enfermera obesa. Esta pareja de sociópatas, perfectamente emparejada por su depravación, se lanza a realizar una serie de asesinatos dirigidos a mujeres solitarias. La película, trágica y cómica, también muestra tintes de un idealismo romántico y resalta prejuicios de clase en la sociedad mexicana.
